Lumbar disc herniation
Low back pain, sciatica, numbness or weakness in the leg.

Lumbar disc herniation is one of the most common causes of low back pain and symptoms radiating into the leg. Displacement of disc material may compress a nerve root.
When evaluation is needed
- Low back pain radiating into the leg (sciatica)
- Numbness, tingling, or weakness in the leg
- Limitation of walking or daily activity
Approach
The decision is based on the clinical picture, neurological status, and imaging. Conservative treatment is sufficient in some cases; surgery is considered when neurological deficit or persistent pain requires it.
