When evaluation is needed
- Fever together with neurological symptoms
- Back or neck pain that worsens rapidly
- Neurological deficit or a change in consciousness
Approach
Diagnosis and strategy are coordinated around the clinical picture, laboratory data, and imaging. Surgery is considered in cases of abscess, epidural collection, or compression.
